The Gather Green Kitchen
The Inspiration
This project was driven by the way the homeowners truly live surrounded by family and friends. While the home itself was only a few years old, the existing kitchen layout no longer supported their lifestyle. The raised bar created a physical and social barrier, especially during gatherings with extended family and aging parents.
The vision was rooted in connection: a warm, moody farmhouse aesthetic layered with modern sensibility. Rich green cabinetry, natural wood tones, and simple architectural details set the tone for a space that feels both grounded and inviting.
Reimagining the Space
The original kitchen layout limited both function and flow. A raised peninsula disrupted interaction, and the space lacked the openness needed for hosting.
The homeowners had a clear vision: create a more open, welcoming kitchen centered around connection without sacrificing functionality or budget.
Creating Connection
The redesign reimagined the kitchen as a true gathering space. By eliminating the peninsula and introducing a generously sized island (102” x 48”), the layout now encourages connection from every angle. The island comfortably seats four, doubling the original goal and becoming the heart of the home.
Function guided every decision. A built-in raised dishwasher improves ergonomics, while thoughtful storage solutions like utensil pull-outs, a double trash system, and a spice rack enhance everyday use. Extending the kitchen along the west wall created space for a dedicated beverage area with an under-counter wine fridge and additional cabinetry.
Visually, the space balances timeless farmhouse elements with a modern, moody palette. Custom paint-matched cabinetry in a deep green pairs beautifully with quarter sawn white oak in a soft praline finish, tying seamlessly into existing architectural woodwork. Shiplap with a subtle nickel gap adds texture without overwhelming the design, while a custom hood and cohesive color application unify the space.
